Welcome New Board Member Kelsey Simkins
We are very excited to introduce the first of our three new ISSRNC Board Members. Kelsey Simkins will join the ISSRNC as a Student Representative. Congratulations and welcome aboard Kelsey!
Bio
Kelsey Simkins will graduate with an MA in Practical Theology with a concentration in ecology and justice from the Methodist Theological School in Ohio (MTSO) in May 2018. She will begin a PhD program in the School of Environment and Natural Resources at Ohio State University in August of 2018.
Simkins’ master’s project focuses on the intersection of urban agriculture, food justice, and spirituality. She is currently involved with a project developing a food hub model in a low-income area of Columbus that links the resources of MTSO and Ohio State with Franklinton Farms, a nonprofit urban farm, and other small local producers. Her ongoing research interests include religious dimensions of food and agricultural movements, especially those that articulate an orientation toward justice.
Her engagement with interdisciplinary methods will make her a valuable member of our scholarly society, and we welcome her energy to enhance the connections between established scholars and fellow PhD students through the ISSRNC working groups.
