We are very excited to introduce the second of our three new ISSRNC Board Members. Michael Northcott will join the Board as a Member-at-Large. Congratulations and welcome aboard Michael!
Bio
During 2018, Michael Northcott is Guest Professor at the University of Heidelberg, where he is writing and teaching at the interdisciplinary nexus of economics, ethics and ecology. From October 2018 he will take an appointment as International Representative and Professor of Religion and Ecology at the Indonesian Consortium of Religious Studies in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, pursuing ongoing research and field work on religion and ecology in the Malay Archipelago.
He has worked in the field of religion and ecology for more than twenty years and taught courses on ecology and religion at the University of Edinburgh, Duke University and Dartmouth College. His many books include: The Environment and Christian Ethics (Cambridge University Press, 1996), A Moral Climate: The Ethics of Global Warming (Orbis Books 2007), A Political Theology of Climate Change (Eerdmans 2013) and Place, Ecology and the Sacred (Bloomsbury 2015). His recent research is grounded in ongoing field work in southeast Asia, but also includes a grant project on faith-based environmental activism in the UK, and another project on the role of religion among the Romantics who initiated the modern conservation movement in the UK, the United States and Germany.
Having been at the Inaugural meeting of the ISSRNC in Gainesville in 2006 and having been a Society member for many years, we are excited for him to join the Board. He is eager to join in the preparations for the 2019 ISSRNC conference in Cork, Ireland not far from his native England.
