End of Summer Updates & News
Dear Colleagues,
I hope you’ve had fruitful summers (for those in the Northern Hemisphere) or are looking forward to spring (for those of you in the Southern Hemisphere).
Here’s what’s happening with the ISSRNC this month.
The board met online on August 9th to finish planning for our get together at the AAR this November, kick start the Cork Conference Planning Committee, and talk about future conference locations and partnerships.
AAR Meeting (#ISSRNCAAR2018):
If you plan to attend the AAR in Denver this November, please stop in for the ISSRNC session on Friday evening from 7-8:30 at the Sheraton (that’s P16-503 in the AAR program). Former ISSRNC President Sarah Pike and Professor Lisa Sideris will be sharing their latest work. It’ll be a great opportunity to meet each other face to face and enjoy a bit of collegiality.
And (!) if you’d like to present your work at a future AAR meeting, please contact any of the board members. We are particularly interested in creating opportunities for society members who are graduate students, adjuncts, and early career faculty.
Cork Conference (#ISSRNC2019):
In addition to your board members we’re happy to have Dr. Jenny Butler and Dr. Lidia Guzy from Cork participating as partners from the host Institution. That planning committee will meet at the end of this week to nail down some remaining details to make this an excellent international conference — and, of course, organize the coffee breaks and banquet. Scholarship always works best with good friends and good food.
The official hashtag for the conference is: #ISSRNC2019. Please use this in all your social media postings. Help us spread the word.
You view the CFP here. Please propagate it out along your own networks — invite your colleagues to join us!
Please start thinking about papers, panels, or other presentations you’d like to submit – and we have two new conference ideas we’re working on:
- We plan to hold a couple of time slots open in the program for panels proposed by members involved in the ISSRNC Working Groups. For more information, to find a group you might be interesting in working with, or if you’d like to organize one yourself, check the Working Groups page on the website.
- We also hope to add one or two virtual sessions for those of you who would like to participate but do not have access to travel funding.Details to follow but if you think you might be interested, please send me an email.
- Upcoming conferences: the board is always looking for partnering opportunities for our next conference. If your institution could participate as a sponsor, partner, or conference host please let us know!
Finally, let your ISSRNC colleagues know what you’ve been doing!
Send me a note with your latest projects, publications, presentations, workshops, papers, book chapters, books and brilliant insights. We have a special section of the website and Facebook pages set up to share our work with each other away from the conferences. Those of you who’ve attended our conferences are familiar with the amazing cross-fertilization happens when we all get together. So, let us know what you’re doing and we’ll post up your work across our social media platforms.
Okay, one more thing. If you have some recent work and are looking for an opportunity to publish it, think about your own society journal first! [Here’s the link to the Journal and the submission guidelines].
Please be in touch! You can find your board members via the Society website. We are always happy to hear from everyone.
Best wishes,
Mark
