2019 Winter Updates from the ISSRNC
Dear ISSRNC colleagues,
A very Happy New Year to everyone. May you find joy in your work during the coming year!
Speaking of which, here’s what’s happening.
The Cork Conference submissions are now closed. Over 120 of our colleagues submitted papers, panels, or presentations. As usual, there was a broad and effervescent assortment of discipline involvement which, to my mind, continues to be our greatest strength. The review committee will begin its work and plans to have letters (emails) of acceptance going out by early February.
Conference Registration info: Registration is set to open sometime in early February. I’ll be sure to send around an announcement, both in email and across our social media platforms, as soon as we know the specific date.
Elections to the ISSRNC Board
Elections are coming up this Spring for a number of spots on the Board. If you would like to be more involved in the direction of the ISSRNC nominations are now open! To nominate yourself or, if you’d like to nominate someone else, send Dr. Amanda Baugh () a brief explanation of your (or their) experience with the ISSRNC and why you think you (or they) would make a good board member.
The procedure requires the executive committee to act as the nominations committee and is charged with establishing a slate of nominees for the upcoming positions. The full board will then approve the slate and that slate will go out to Society members for a vote. As you consider nominations, please remember that our by-laws encourage disciplinary and geographic diversity among our board members. In addition, we hope to improve the racial diversity of the ISSRNC board while maintaining our current commitment to gender balance.
- Other ways to participate: If you’re not interested in serving on the board there are other ways to get involved.
- The Society’s Journal (the JSRNC, there’s the link) is always looking for new reviewers or new submissions (contact Amanda Nichols (amnv22@ufl.edu)), and
- The Society always needs help with fund raising, social media, and web construction and management in order to help keep the communication links running smoothly.
If you have any interest or expertise in these kinds of positions, please send me an email and let me know.
Getting to know you (all of us!) better: One of our primary missions is to bring diverse scholars together for fruitful and interesting exchanges. We’d like to hear about (and share!) your latest work and how you became involved with the ISSRNC. You can send those emails directly to me (). Please be sure to include “ISSRNC stories” in the subject line.
New ISSRNC Listservs are coming on line: Speaking of communication links, the ISSRNC will be launching a listserv to open up conversations among all our members, as well as a special listserv devoted to members still in their graduate programmes. We plan to add everyone’s current email addresses and then, if you like, you’ll be able to opt out later.
Finding new partners for our next conferences: Many of us belong to a number of smaller societies. If you belong to one that might be interested in partnering with the ISSRNC at future AAR meetings or to develop future conferences please get in touch with our president-elect, Evan Berry ().
That’s about it for now. εὖ πράττωμεν.
On Behalf of the Board,
Mark
