Postdoctoral Fellowship – Center for Religion and the Human
Indiana University, Bloomington
2 Year Position (Aug 2020-July 2022)
Application Deadline: January 10, 2020
The new Center for Religion and the Human (CRH) at Indiana University, Bloomington invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellow. The start date is August 1, 2020 with an end date of July 31, 2022.
We seek applications from scholars whose research addresses the intersection of religion, nature, and science and/or technology. Applicants need not be scholars of religious studies. Rather, we encourage applications from scholars in a variety of fields whose work engages religion or theology not as authoritative systems, but as modes of inquiry inspired by an awareness of human and natural limits. The successful candidate must have received a Ph.D. within the last 6 years in religious studies, religion and science, science and technology studies, religion and ecology/religion and nature, or comparable areas of research within humanities or social sciences fields. The Fellow will be expected to maintain an active research profile; to conduct independent research on a significant project that aligns with the aims of the Center and the “Being Human” Project funded by the Luce Foundation; and to present work in progress at professional conferences and CRH-sponsored workshops. The successful candidate will also participate in research and outreach activities of the Center, and associated events of “Being Human.” Preference will be given to interdisciplinary candidates whose research profile clearly links them to the wider “Being Human” project.
More information about the Center, the Luce-funded project, and postdoctoral position can be found on the Center website: https://crh.indiana.edu/projects/religion-science-technology/post-doctoral-fellowship.html
While the position entails no formal teaching obligations, opportunities exist to contribute to courses offered through the Religious Studies department in areas related to the candidate’s research.
A complete application includes a brief cover letter, an abbreviated CV, a one-page research plan for the fellowship period that demonstrates the relevance of the proposed research to the aims of the “Being Human” project, and names and contact information for two references with your online application. Additional materials may be requested at a later date.
Interested candidates should review the application requirements and submit their application at: https://indiana.peopleadmin.
Applications received by January 10, 2020 will be given full consideration; however, the search will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
